All about Canapes!

“A canapé is a type of hors d’œuvre, a small, prepared and usually decorative food, consisting of a small piece of bread (sometimes toasted), puff pastry, or a cracker topped with some savoury food, held in the fingers and often eaten in one bite.”

We offer an extensive range to our clients for their Weddings and Corporate events – feeling hungry yet??

Feedback from our Wonderful Clients!

Dear Liz,

We have been back at work this week and will be heading on our honeymoon on Sunday. But before we set off we just wanted to say how unbelievably happy we were with the food on Saturday. Feedback was incredible, people said it was the best wedding food they had ever tasted. It really was delicious, and it has opened many people to the idea of vegetarianism which was not our main priority.

Please send our compliments to the chef and the catering team and the front of house staff who were exceptional.

Anise have really contributed to the best day of our lives,

Many thanks,

Mawgan and Sophie

Feedback from our clients!

We received a beautiful message from the new Mr and Mrs Pyman today! Working in events can be stressful at times but this is what makes it all worth it!

“We would just like to say a huge thank you to you and Mark for your efforts to make our day perfect. We had an absolutely brilliant day and everyone has mentioned to us how much they loved the venue… especially the food!! Mark and the support staff on the day were amazing and couldn’t have been more helpful. Wish the day didn’t have to end but we’ll remember it forever.”

Thank you and all the best in  your married life together!

The Perfect Christmas Party

blogchristmas

Planning the perfect Christmas party can take expertise and experience. So, with the festive season fast approaching, follow our handy tips….

Opt for a venue that’s memorable for all the right reasons

Nobody wants to attend a Christmas party worthy of ‘The Office’ with drunken employees swinging in their chairs and dancing to ‘Last Christmas’ whilst blowing on a streamer. Break out of the office environment so that your employees feel like they can let their hair down.

Set the right date and time

Depending on what type of sector you’re in, choosing the right date for the Christmas party is crucial. Remember, if December’s your busiest period, January may be a better date when more people can make the event – and actually enjoy it as they aren’t stressing over getting that deadline completed! Give yourself enough time to plan the perfect Christmas party.

Plan early

Most companies begin researching and planning in early summer – or even earlier than this. Remember, venues get booked up and some even have a long waiting list…

Ask for feedback on the previous year’s party

Getting feedback on the previous year. This will help you plan the perfect party and learn what your employees really enjoyed – and didn’t so much. Make it simple by giving people a questionnaire or survey with closed answers rather than just asking people what they would like to see as you may get lots of conflicting answers!

Try a theme

Themes can be a fun way to get your employees into the spirit of things. Give people enough warning though so people have time to buy all the accessories etc. You can always put it out as a poll with a few options so employees can give their say on their preferred fancy dress costume. Popular options include Winter Wonderland, masquerade, Christmas jumpers or Christmas around the world party.

Make sure your budget stretches

There’s no point in planning a Christmas party if you haven’t got the budget to cover it. Plan early, buy the most important things first and there’s any money left, that’s the time you can splurge on things you think are fun rather than essentials.

Start a spreadsheet

There’s nothing like a bit of meticulous planning when it comes to party planning. You can always check or reuse last year’s spreadsheet to check the spend and all the details. It will help you keep a track of everything in the long run.

Don’t skimp on important things

Excellent food and drink will make your Christmas party go with a swing. Here, at Anise Catering we can help you every step of the way. We cater to every budget and detail and one of our experienced, friendly staff members will be able to help you along the way.

Eating On Your Wedding Day

blogpost

So, you’ve spent months planning your wedding menu throughout the day, right down to every last tiny detail. But on your wedding day you will be so busy that it sometimes can be quite hard to find the time to enjoy the food you’ve spent such a long-time planning.

Follow Anise Catering’s handy tips to ensure you don’t go hungry on the most important day of your life!

Pick the food and drink you want when deciding your menu. Family and friends can give you their opinions and recommendations but remember that ultimately, it’s your decision. We will help guide you with our menus that can be personalised and tailored accordingly depending on what you are looking for. Read our reviews here.

Set yourself up with a good, hearty breakfast. Slow burning energy foods like porridge or eggs are a good option. A wedding day is a long day and you will expend a lot of nervous energy in anticipation, excitement and that’s not to mention the amazing moves you’ll be throwing later on the dance floor!

If you’re opting for canapes or a buffet style meal, set yourself some time to eat something. The day will go so quickly and you’ll find everybody wanting to talk to you. It’s necessary to give yourself some down time out to go and sit down and relax and enjoy the fare you and your partner have chosen. There will be time later to chat to your guests.

If you’ve chosen a wedding breakfast, there will be time to sit down and eat and drink. If you are giving a speech though and nervous anticipation has displaced hunger, do not fear – ask the kitchen to save you some for later rather than filling up just on booze or wedding cake.

You’ll find it’s the one day where you keep getting bought drinks. Obviously, this is great – and nobody likes turning down a free drink – but don’t mix your alcohol too early on and drink lots of water – boring, Yes, we know but you’ll actually remember – and enjoy your wedding day and you’ll be thankful of it the next day (especially if you have important jobs to do!).

Grab a slice of wedding cake after cutting it otherwise it might get devoured!

And don’t forget the evening snacks that provide the perfect fuel for an evening of jollity and dancing.

Weird and wonderful wedding customs from around the world.

Bride Throwing Bouquet For Guests To Catch

Bride Throwing Bouquet For Guests To Catch

Many American traditions reign supreme in the Western world when it comes to weddings (bridal showers, the throwing of the bouquet, the cutting of the cake) and Hollywood has helped to catapult these traditions into the mainstream. But what weird and wonderful traditions occur in the rest of the world?

The Congo: No smiling

While most about-to-be marrieds brim with excitement and anticipation, Congolese brides and grooms must keep their happiness in check — during their entire wedding day, from ceremony to reception, the two are not allowed to smile. If they do, it would mean they weren’t serious about marriage.

Cuba: Money Dance

Since it is still a communist country, weddings in Cuba are nonreligious, civil ceremonies. The money dance allows guests to give the bride and groom a helping hand with their honeymoon and their new lives together. After the formal ceremony is over, men who wish to dance with the bride must first pin money to her dress. This interactive – and highly profitable – custom is also common in parts of the southern United States, Poland, and Greece.

Fiji: An unusual gift

In Fiji, men have to find an unusual gift before they can ask for a woman’s hand in marriage: Before asking for the hand of his beloved, the groom must present his father-in-law with a whale’s tooth! Now that’s love!

Korea: A goose for the mother-in-law

In the traditional Korean wedding, the groom will give his mother-in-law wild geese signifying the groom’s intentions and loyalty to the bride…

Germany: Get me to the church on time

We know it’s fashionable for the bride to be late on the wedding day but in some German villages, the poor groom has a real …. That his bride-to-be won’t show up as it is customary to kidnap the bride! Now, that is pressure when you’re standing at the altar…

China: Cupid in waiting

In China’s Yugur culture, grooms literally become Cupid, shooting their future brides with a bow and arrow (thankfully minus the arrowheads, we hasten to add). This happen three times. The groom then breaks the arrows to ensure the couple stay in love forever.

Scotland: Blackening of the bride

Scottish brides-to-be are taken by surprise by their friends ahead of the big day, and pelted with all sorts of rubbish such as curdled milk, dead fish, spoiled food, tar and feathers. She is then tied to a tree and after taken for a night of drinking. The belief is that if she can withstand this kind of treatment, she can handle anything that comes her way in her marriage! If that’s what happens on the wedding day, we don’t want to know what goes on at the hen night!

India: Shoe stealing

The wedding altar (mandapa) is built the day of and the groom is welcomed by his future mother in law where his feet are then washed and he is offered milk and honey. His sister in law will attempt to steal his shoes and if she succeeds, the groom must pay her to get them back!
